Democracy is successful when the people are educated and therefore, know the truth. Until the time that enough of us are educated, we’ll continue to be corralled into wars thanks to appeals to our baser emotions.
Thank you! I think so, too. I have faith in humans. We have made revolutions against suppression and corruption before, and will do it again, on new levels of consciousness, in different forms. We will evolve. Humanity has always evolved, and one day in the future, our modern society will be seen as barbaric and people will look back and wonder how we put up with so much for so long. It’s bound to happen. Hopefully, we live in the very beginning of the human era on earth (as we haven’t existed for long compared to dinosaurs for example), and this was just the stone age step to better existence. Why would anyone have to suffer ever? There is no law saying so.
The flipside, of course, is that our environment gets so inhospitable that we don’t make it to that kind of future. I agree that eventually people would take up arms and bend the needle of history back towards justice, but that’s only if the rock we’re living on tolerates us long enough to get the message. No dictator in the world or group of revolutionaries can reverse the effects of climate change, as an immediate example. The question then becomes one not of humanity ending its armed conflicts against itself, but of humanity ending its unarmed pursuits of wealth that are indirectly making it harder for all of us to survive.
So true, and so sad. If that happens, life will find a way even without humans, I hope. If we ruin all life, then we really didn’t deserve life, and that would be devastating.
I so agree that the crazy pursuit of wealth – and power – ideals seemingly so far from true joy of life – has to end even more than the wars, but wars are part of those ideal’s methods. Why do we all agree to fight for and with ideals we should be able to see through as insane, since we don’t live forever? Just because somebody is “on top” doesn’t mean they have a better life. How come people still race for and with the top and accept that race? It seems so empty. I understand it in a culture where people struggle for survival, but it is the western societies that accept the worst crimes. How can we all be so blindly following ideals that we certainly can’t really believe in?

Sadly, you’ll never find a politician willing to tell the truth 😉

Is that the fault of the politician or the system that breeds them?

In relation to your last comment, I’ll just make reference to this poem I wrote on patriotism. http://thelarksroost.wordpress.com/2014/09/25/fools-with-flags/
